MASTHEAD

These are my original designs for my music magazine masthead. Because my music magazine if of a mixed genre, I wanted to chose something they would be to imposing of a certain genre and I wanted it to be gender neutral. All 3 of my masthead ideas have a similar look; all of them are upper case to look bold, but each has a different effect. My first design is 'Revolution' is block capitols, but is in boxes to make it stand out more. At first, I thought the block design would be eye-catching and draw attention to the front cover but in the end decided it had to much of a masculine look and detracted to much from the main image (making the front cover look busy). My second design is in block capitols but this time without a border. Although it isn't as eye-catching, I think it gives a better look and is very gender neutral, but because the letters 'R' and 'O' are filled in it gives a unique look that makes the design look less simple. My third design gives off a hand drawn 'graffiti' style which although gives a different look, doesn't make as good of an impact as the first two designs because they are more ordered. Overall, I chose the second design for the reason that it looks more gender neutral and I think it would look better on the front of the magazine.
