Design Brief

Design Brief
Band Name: Rumour Has It
Target Audience demographic:
What is their age range? 15-25

What other music do they listen to? You Me at Six, Paramore, Linkin Park, Fall out Boy, All Time Low. What other interests might they have? Social networking, going out, music festivals, listening to loud music. What style of clothing do they wear? Rock/Pop Style, band merchandise. Converse shoes, jeans, hats (have piercings, tattoos)

Imagery and Colour Schemes:
Create a Photoshop document of imagery you have found on the internet. (Mood board)
What imagery is likely to appear on the front cover? Should you expect to see darker colours, bright colours, and pastels, black or white? Dark Colours, rough style.  Album artwork usually links in with rock albums but I want a picture of the band on the front cover.  You would expect to see a picture of the band so it would be easily recognisable. Unlike pop albums, the background wouldn’t just be white but be in a set scene, such as a college or an alleyway (dark scene, fits with genre of music).
Type face/Font style
Create a Photoshop document of typefaces that would be appropriate.
What type faces have you found that could be appropriate?
Pop/Rock (similar to bands such as you me at six) Black and white writing, not much colour. Rough finish.  Because it’s a rock/pop band the font would also be big writing which is eye-catching, and usually will be in full capital letters (that’s what people associate with rock bands, unlike thin writing used on pop albums).

Mood Board

This is my mood-board for what I think, would be the target audience for my CD. The average things people wear, I think, when listening to rock/punk music such as 'You me at Six' or 'Metallica' would be:
  • Band Merchandise.
  • Converse, Vans shoes.
  • Checkered Shirts
  • Skinny Jeans.
  • T-Shirts and Hoodies.

    My CD Front Cover

This is the front of my CD cover.  I decided to choose neutral colours, such as black and white, to help link with the type of music but also, to link with the name of the album 'Inventions of the 1950's'. The album cover is of a retro TV, with the band image in the middle, turned black and white. Other than putting in a close up shot of the band, I decided to chose something that could look like it could easily be a shot from a TV programme or music show. (Hence why the band is far away and some members have heir backs turned to the camera). I think the CD cover works well, because of the main image, the CD isn't as recognisable as say, a Lady Gaga CD, but would be easier to find than a CD with band album artwork on it. Even though the CD has a very neutral back/front cover, I think that it is easy to remember and will stand out to other CD's.

    My CD Back Cover

This is the back-cover to my CD. The colours consist of just black and white, and the background stipes link with the front cover. Because the band is a rock/punk style, I decided to use the main image of the band on the back of the CD (because the front image isnt very recognisable), unlike pop Cd's, which consist of picture of the main star. By turning the image black and white also gives a rock effect (deep shadows in eyes and clothes), and the font is in capitols, so stand out and is easy to read. I think the back cover is simple, but effective in its purpose (to give information on band, song names etc).
